emilie is the owner, buyer and a designer of uncommon luxe. she is from santa fe, new mexico and currently resides in accra, ghana. she personally sources the products and materials by master artisans and designers.
after graduating from the rhode island school of design in 2000, she moved to bangladesh beginning her career as a photojournalist for the non-governmental organization, brac. she travelled throughout the country documenting the traditional arts and crafts. this project was the first inspiration of what is now uncommon luxe.
unfortunately, due to social and economic factors, traditional art forms are disappearing around the world. the arts are influential factors in creating a cultural identity. emilie believes it is incredibly important to preserve them, and her hope is uncommon luxe will have a small part in doing so.
